Please note that the document dimensions and leading can only be edited from the main master [GC-1], this has been implemented to prevent the layout from being "broken". By setting the document grid in the main masters and having the rest of the masters follow that no layouts will be "broken". Due to some changes in version 4.2, following article is recommended reading regarding Alternate Layout Master.
